APAR Shakti FR LSH
Shakti FR-LSH is the grade people search for as FRLS wire, FRLSH wire, FR LSH cable or low smoke wire. The letters are the same thing written three ways: flame retardant, low smoke and (low) halogen. In a fire the insulation gives off much less dense smoke and less acid gas than ordinary FR PVC, which is why this grade is specified for stairwells, lift shafts, basements and apartment corridors.
Description
OverviewShakti FR-LSH is the low smoke grade, sold and searched for as FRLS wire, FRLSH or FR-LSH cable. It is flame retardant like the FR-PVC grade, but the compound also holds down smoke density and halogen content, so if it does burn the air in a corridor stays clearer for longer. Single core, 1100 V, 0.5 to 16 sq mm, to IS 694:2010.
Smoke is what stops people finding a staircase, and it is why consultants now write FRLS into apartment and office specifications rather than leaving the choice to the contractor. Use it through common areas, lift shafts, basements and car parks, and in any building where getting out takes more than a few seconds. The conductor is the same high conductivity copper as the rest of the Shakti range, in the usual colours for phase, neutral and earth identification.

Standards & approvals
ComplianceManufactured and tested to IS 694:2010, the Indian Standard for PVC-insulated cables for working voltages up to and including 1100 V. Every drum is ISI-marked and BIS-certified.
Flame-retardant, low-smoke, low-halogen grade as defined in IS 694:2010.
The BIS licence number is printed along the wire, so an electrician or buyer can verify a genuine product at the point of sale.

Good to knowWhat is the difference between FR-LSH and FR PVC?+
FR-LSH adds low-smoke and low-halogen performance to flame retardance, so in a fire it emits less dense smoke and fewer toxic, corrosive gases than standard FR PVC — improving visibility and safety during evacuation.
Where should I use Shakti FR-LSH?+
It suits residential and commercial wiring, motors, appliances, control panels, transformers and distribution boards where enhanced fire safety is needed.
What colours are available?+
Red, green, blue, black, white and yellow as standard, with custom colours available on request.
Which standard does it meet?+
It is manufactured and tested to IS 694:2010 for single-core unsheathed cables.
What is the full form of FRLS?+
Flame Retardant Low Smoke. The longer form FRLSH (or FR-LSH) adds "halogen", meaning low halogen content. Brands use the spellings interchangeably for the same grade of house wire.
FRLS vs FRLSH: is there a difference?+
In practice, no. FRLS and FRLSH describe the same class of low-smoke, low-halogen flame-retardant PVC house wire. Some brands print FRLS, some FRLSH, some FR-LSH. Check the actual test values (smoke density, acid gas, oxygen index) on the datasheet rather than the letters.
Where should FRLS wire be used instead of FR?+
Anywhere smoke would trap people or damage equipment: staircases and lobbies of apartment buildings, basements and car parks, hospitals, schools, offices and server rooms. Many municipal fire norms and most consultants now ask for FRLS as the minimum in multi-storey buildings.
