Anushakti Fire Protekt is the grade searched for as HFFR wire, ZHFR wire, LSZH wire, LS0H cable or halogen free flame retardant wire. Different brands use different letters for the same class: halogen-free, flame-retardant insulation that gives off very little smoke and no acid gas. Fire Protekt adds electron-beam cross-linking (EBXL), which is why it is also searched as e-beam wire or EBXL wire.

Description

Overview

Anushakti Fire Protekt is the halogen free grade, which different brands label HFFR, ZHFR or LSZH depending on who printed the box. There are no halogens in the compound at all, so it cannot give off the corrosive acid gas that burning PVC does, and the smoke it produces is thin rather than black. The insulation is cross linked by electron beam, which is where the EBXL in the name comes from.

Cross linking bonds the polymer chains so the insulation no longer melts when it overheats. It chars and holds its shape instead, which is the difference between a fault that trips a breaker and a fault that shorts across to the next conductor. This is the wire for buildings where getting everyone out takes time and where the equipment left behind matters: towers, hospitals, schools, metro stations, data centres. Single core, 1100 V, 0.75 to 6 sq mm.

Standards & approvals

Compliance

Manufactured and tested to IS 694:2010, the Indian Standard for PVC-insulated cables for working voltages up to and including 1100 V. Every drum is ISI-marked and BIS-certified.

The e-beam cross-linked HFFR insulation is tested beyond the minimum requirements of the standard for oxygen index, smoke density and halogen content.

The BIS licence number is printed along the wire, so an electrician or buyer can verify a genuine product at the point of sale.

What are the main safety advantages?+

HFFR insulation emits minimal smoke and zero toxic halogen gases in a fire, improving evacuation visibility and protecting equipment.

HFFR vs ZHFR vs LSZH: what is the difference?+

Mostly the brand. HFFR (halogen-free flame retardant), ZHFR (zero halogen flame retardant) and LSZH or LS0H (low smoke zero halogen) all describe insulation with no halogens, so it cannot produce the corrosive acid gas that PVC does when it burns. Compare the actual test figures (smoke density, acid gas, oxygen index) on the datasheet rather than the acronym.

Is HFFR wire better than FRLS?+

It is a step above. FRLS is a PVC compound with reduced halogen; HFFR has no halogen at all, so smoke is thinner and there is no acid gas to corrode equipment or harm people. HFFR costs more, which is why it is usually specified for high-rise, hospitals, data centres and anywhere evacuation is slow.

What does e-beam (EBXL) cross-linking do for a wire?+

An electron beam links the polymer chains of the insulation so it no longer melts when overheated; it chars instead.
