In most reconductoring projects, yes. Covered conductor is designed to be installed on an existing bare-conductor network without changing the poles, cross-arms or insulators in the same span, which is one reason utilities choose it over underground cable for feeders that trip on tree contact. APAR covered conductors are self-supporting on pole spans of 60 to 70 metres and need no separate messenger wire.
Two checks are still needed before ordering. First, confirm that pole strength and ground clearances suit the new conductor, because the covering adds weight compared with a bare conductor of the same size, and sag should be taken from the covered conductor's own table. Second, plan the fittings: covered conductor needs suspension clamps, anchoring clamps and insulation piercing connectors made for the covering, to EN 50397-2. Sizes and voltage classes are on the covered conductor product page.
