Is HFFR wire worth the extra cost over FR-LSH?

Quick answer

In most cases yes, because the difference across a whole house is small relative to what it protects.

Wiring is typically 1–2% of the cost of building a house. Moving the whole installation up a fire-safety grade usually adds a few thousand rupees — against a rewiring job later costing lakhs, since it means breaking and re-finishing walls.

It is most clearly worth it where evacuation is slow or crowded: high-rise apartments with enclosed stairwells, homes with elderly residents or young children, basements with no natural ventilation, and buildings with a single exit route.

For a detached house with multiple exits, FR-LSH or HR-FR-LSH is a reasonable specification.
