Street lighting is fed by underground or overhead distribution rather than ordinary building wire. The usual underground choice is an armoured LV XLPE power cable, sized both for the pole loads and for the length of the run, because lighting feeders are often long and voltage drop, not current, tends to govern the conductor size. Overhead sections use aerial bunched cable, which twists insulated cores around a bare messenger and resists tapping, abrasion and tree contact. Both are rated for outdoor and buried or aerial service, unlike indoor house wire, and the armour or messenger is earthed at the specified points. Feeder pillars, joints and pole terminations are matched to the cable. APAR supplies LV XLPE power cables and aerial bunched cables for lighting distribution.
