Which cables are used in data centres?

Quick answer

Data centres combine three cabling needs: reliable power, high-speed data, and fire safety — all at high density where downtime is costly.

  • Power cabling: low-voltage power and distribution cables feeding racks, UPS and cooling, sized for continuous load.
  • Data cabling: structured LAN (Ethernet) cabling for connectivity, with optical fibre for high-bandwidth backbones.
  • Fire-safe cabling: low-smoke, zero-halogen (LSZH) cable throughout, because in a dense, enclosed, equipment-filled space minimising smoke and corrosive gas is critical.

APAR supplies cabling for these environments, including communication (Tarang Shakti) cables for data and low-smoke house and building wiring grades for power. For a specific data-centre specification, contact APAR.
