Home Electrical Safety

How often should home wiring be inspected or replaced?

Quick answer

As a general guide, have a qualified electrician inspect your home wiring every few years, and consider a full review for any installation more than about 20–25 years old or one done before modern fire-safety grades existed. Quality wiring lasts decades, but heat, moisture, rodents and overloading shorten its life — see how long cables last.

Do a simple visual check yourself every few months: look for warm or discoloured switches, frayed cords, loose plugs, and multi-boards hidden under rugs or behind furniture where heat builds up. Any warning signs of faulty wiring warrant a professional inspection.

If you are renovating, it is the ideal moment to rewire with modern low-smoke HR-FR-LSH house wire. Browse all house wires and cables or contact APAR for guidance.
