A formboard is a full-size layout of the harness, drawn on a board with fixtures, pegs and connector holders placed where each branch, breakout and connector must sit. Wires cut to length are laid along the board, so every branch comes out at the correct position and length before the harness is taped, sleeved or tied.
The board turns a two-dimensional drawing into a repeatable build. Every harness built on it has the same branch lengths, clip positions and connector orientation, which is what lets it fit the vehicle or coach without stretching or excess slack. Labels, protection and fixings are added on the board, and many boards also carry test points for continuity checks.
Because a formboard is built from the customer's drawing, a complete, dimensioned drawing shortens lead time. The harness RFQ checklist lists what to provide. APAR builds harnesses for railway coaches, locomotives, solar projects and automotive and EV platforms.
