Which is the best house wire in India?

Quick answer

There is no single answer, because "best" depends on what you are wiring and the grade you need. A more useful approach is to judge any wire against six things:

  • Conductor — electrolytic-grade (99.97%) annealed copper, with published resistance in Ω/km
  • Insulation grade — FR, FR-LSH, HR-FR-LSH or HFFR
  • Standard — IS 694:2010 for PVC grades, IS 17048:2018 for genuine HFFR
  • Fire-performance data — oxygen index, temperature index, smoke density, halogen content
  • ISI mark and BIS licence number printed along the wire, not just on the drum
  • Current rating for your actual installation method

Any manufacturer worth buying from publishes all six. For a new Indian home, an HR-FR-LSH or HFFR wire from a BIS-certified maker, correctly sized, is a sound specification.

APAR publishes all six for every wire in its range — see the Anushakti Fire Protekt EBXL HFFR specification as an example.
