Fire-safety performance is assessed against further standards: flame retardance (for example IEC 60332 / IS 10810 series), smoke density (IEC 61034) and halogen acid-gas emission (IEC 60754). Wires meeting these are marketed as FR, FR-LS or HR-FR-LSH grades.
For environmentally conscious specification, look also for RoHS and REACH compliance (restricting hazardous substances such as lead). The simplest assurance for a buyer remains the ISI mark plus a reputable manufacturer.
